The time when TV dinners were popularized around the year 1954, and the first company to do this was swansons food (Trimarchi). There was a reason why they became popular among use. It was due to left over holiday turkeys that were left over; so Sawson and sons decide to send over 520,000 pounds of poultry to Omaha Nebraska (Lebeau). At that time the TV played the main role with the common American family in the 1950s. People bought TV dinners because family could have a dinner together at home, and have some entertainment. Frozen foods weren't all that new at that time; they had similar products since 1923. (Trimarchi) People got to the idea of the TV dinners due to that American citizen didn’t have some of these products during World War Two. I think that another cause of popularity in our culture was women working more. When we were in World War Two and after women worked in the factories for most of the day, and that kept them away from home (Gust). They didn't have these because they needed to feed the troops in Europe and the pacific. Gerry Tomas the man who invented Sawnsons TV dinners was later honored at the Mann’s Chinese Theater alongside other famous movie stars (Lebeau). This is some information on why and when TV dinners became popular in America.
